Game Reacts To Name-Drop Criticism [360]

XXL counted 149 name drops on Game’s Purp & Patron mixtape and illustrated every one. Game weighs in…

Game put his generosity on full display this week when he released his 29-track, double disc mixtape Purp & Patron as a free download online on Monday (January 24). Fans ate up the tape which featured guests like Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Wiz Khalifa and KRS-One. XXL was so into the release; it’s beats and it’s lyrics, that we decided to break it down a bit further than we normally would and count the amount of name drops the rapper spit. .

Game, who has been known to name drop everyone from actors to athletes and other rappers went on to mention 149 personalities to help illustrate his lyrics and get his point across during the duration of the mixtape. There were lines like “No patience, so I had to ride sick/Ride dirty on that T.I. tip” and “I’m ballin’, MJ on you niggas” from “L.A. Times.” Floyd Mayweather, Pharrell, Dr. Dre and actress Halle Berry were also some of the celebrities mentioned to help Game enhance his similes and metaphors.

Game applauded XXLMag.com for our efforts, but had a few choice words for anyone who dares criticize his penchant for name-dropping:

“It was cool, y’all put a lot of work in on that, I saw the link on Twitter and read it. I don’t give two shits about the criticism. I’m on my fourth album and I got three platinum albums and The R.E.D. Album is going to be incredible.

When I first came in on The Documentary people said I name drop too much, now everybody name-drops. Next time anybody puts out a mixtape, count the name drops, it’s gonna be just as much as mines, maybe more. I set trends, now it’s acceptable. I use that to illustrate my lyrics and for anybody to count every time that I name drop they have to listen to it, so I’m good with that.

That means they are listening to my lyrics.”
