Pete Rock's Lawyer & Wife Release Statements Regarding NYPD Scuffle

After policemen arrested six patrons following Pete Rock & Smif-N-Wessun's "Monumental" release party, Rock's lawyer and wife are speaking out.

Following yesterday morning's melee with the police scuffle outside of Pete Rock and Smif-N-Wessun's Monumental release party, Pete Rock's lawyer, Kenneth Montgomery, and wife, Shara McHayle, have issued statements regarding the melee. The incident, which took place outside of New York City, New York's Tammany Hall, ended up with six citizen arrests and five police injuries.

McHayle explains how she was at the hand abrasive officers in the below statement.

"With an extremely heavy heart I communicate to my friends and colleagues that over 24 hours ago my family and friends went out to celebrate the album release of Monumental. It was a peaceful, fun classic hip hop party. We all left the venue to be greeted outside by a sea of NYPD gloved up and very aggressive. As we began to move we all witnessed the most brutal beating of a party patron. He was on the floor surrounded by 10 police officers with sticks out beating him. In shock, we must have not moved quickly enough to the officers liking and they shouted “Move the FUCK back” and then shoved myself and my daughter down to the ground. Now we were surrounded by 3 cops and 1 pinning us down. My daughter shouted “Get off my mother” and was handcuffed and arrested. I am sure you heard or saw the disturbing graphic videos that have been circulating on line. Tonight with a lump in my throat my daughter remains in police custody with 4 others. She has been charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. With gratitude I have received emails, texts, msgs and phone calls sending support and asking what they can do. Tonight I ask if you can to join us peacefully tomorrow morning 9am at 100 Centre St New York, NY to stand up with us to this injustice. If you can not, please repost, tweet, email and let the world know."

In the statement, Montgomery claims that NYPD arrived on the scene after a minor disparity that had been reconciled. Despite the peaceful environment, he asserts that policemen committed "unjustified, unprovoked, and simply barbaric" acts. Read the full statement below.

On Tuesday, June 28th, Pete Rock, Tek & Steele (of Smif N Wessun) were celebrating the release of their collaborative album, ‘Monumental.’ It was a peaceful gathering inside of a sold-out Tammany Hall (lower-east side Manhattan, NY) to see the group perform new music from the project. Earlier in the evening some guest wanted to enter the event but were turned away by the management and bouncers employed by the club. A minor argument ensued but eventually was diffused by the bouncers. Thirty minutes after that minor skirmish (no 61 or incident was ever filed by the club or bouncers) some 15-20 uniformed Police Officers from the 7th precinct arrived at the venue. When the officers arrived some of them entered the venue where they witnessed a peaceful environment, they quickly exited the venue and joined their fellow officers in the exit area of the venue.

Upon joining their fellow Officer’s they all began to put on black leather gloves. At that time more uniformed officers arrived in marked rmp’s and exited their vehicles. The officers then hurried into the club and began macing and assaulting individuals inside the club, dragging one of them out and pummeling him directly in front of the club. Present at the event were artist, industry tastemakers, fans, photographers, and cameramen. Several people began filming and recording the unprovoked brutality much to the dismay of the police. The officers then began to mace and assault anyone within arms length, including several women. Their behavior was unjustified, unprovoked, and simply barbaric considering there was no provocation. Pete Rock, Tek and Steele fortunately were not harmed, however some of their friends & family were assaulted by the Police. The group’s attorney, Kenneth Montgomery, is addressing the situation now with local community leaders & is available for comment with more detailed information.

Freeway Recalls Customs Official Challenging His Islamic Faith

While trying to get through customs in Canada, an official made him pause and reflect on his religion.

Freeway recently took a trip to Canada but faced an unusual situation when he got to the customs official. After the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native was pulled from line, an official challenged his Islamic faith after looking at his passport.

“They pulled me out of line for customs and I was in line for like an hour waiting and they just wanted to ask me some questions," he told The Come Up Show. "So when I got to the front, the guy looked at my passport. I’ve been to Saudi Arabia a couple times, so I got stamps from Saudi Arabia. He was like, ‘When were you in Saudi Arabia?’ I told him when I was there. He was like, ‘You’re Muslim? Why are you Muslim?’ I said that I studied, my father was Muslim, I felt as though that it’s the right religion for me. It’s a beautiful religion, it’s beautiful.”

Whereas the situation could have taken a turn for the worse, Free explained that it was an eye-opening experience.

“It really touched me. He was like, ‘It’s beautiful but if something comes along that’s more beautiful than that, are you gon’ take that?’ That made a lot of sense,” he continued. “I told him, ‘It just makes sense. Islam makes sense to me. Everything clicks.’ And he was like, ‘Ah, that’s the answer right there.’ It was such a good feeling. You know, when you come through immigration, I was upset already because they took me out the line and was taking time out my day, but I was patient. I’m expecting them to be on some other stuff when I get up there, and he was Muslim. At the end, he was like ‘As-Salamu Alayka, brother,’ and I was like, 'Wa alayka s-salam.’ It was good.”

Rick Ross Sued After His Pit Bulls Kill A Neighbor's Dog

Ricky Rozay is yet to apologize for his dog's deadly behavior, prompting his neighbor to file suit for $15,000 in damages.

A neighbor is suing Rick Ross after three of his pit bulls escaped from his Atlanta, Georgia mansion in April and mauled her pet Yorkshire Terrier, who died in the attack.

The neighbor claims that the three-year-old puppy had “three large bit wounds on his back” as well as a “very large bit wound” around his neck. Police arrived on the scene freed the dog from the attack, but the owner was forced to euthanize the dog since the wounds were so extreme.

Ross was cited for the incident, but the neighbor also filed a lawsuit against the Teflon Don demanding $15,000 in court costs and damages. The neighbor claims that Ross is yet to apologize for the incident.

Reluctant Witnesses Preventing Police From Finding M-Bone's Murderer

Investigators claim that witnesses are not willing to talk and that the case is still unsolved.

Six weeks after the murder of Cali Swag District’s M-Bone, police are still looking for a suspect and continue to hit roadblocks. According to Time Magazine, investigators are having trouble locating the gunman who fatally shot M-Bone as witnesses have been reluctant to cooperate.

“When witnesses don't want to come out and talk, that's a challenge," said Lieutenant Oscar Serrano of the Inglewood Police Department. "It's proven to be a challenge in these types of shootings, and it's a challenge right now."

Following his untimely death, locals in Inglewood, California explained that the gunman might have been jealous of his success and that M-Bone recently feuded with someone on the internet.

"It's something that's been brought to the attention of detectives, and they're looking into whether it's important to the investigation," adds Serrano.

M-Bone was parked outside of Airport Liquors on Sunday, May 15th, making a stop on his way to a nearby studio. The gunman pulled up next to his car and fatally shot him twice in the head.

NYPD Reportedly Attack Fans At Pete Rock & Smif-N-Wessun's NYC Release Party

The celebration took a turn for the worse following a performance at New York City's Tammany Hall.

Last night, the release party for Pete Rock and Smif-N-Wessun’s new album Monumental turned ugly. According to eyewitness reports, fans enjoyed the show at Tammany Hall in New York City, New York when, following the show, policemen attacked several patrons outside the club.

Though it is unknown what sparked the scuffle, UK DJ/Presented Jay Diamond released a video, posted below, explaining what went down and showing footage from the scene.

“There was a fight outside the club and it got really nasty. We had no idea what was going on in the club, like absolutely no idea,” she said. “Everything just shut down and we were told to make our way out the building, and as we did so, mace was thrown into the building. [...] Bascially all the NYPD turned up and fucked up Pete Rock’s wife, is what I heard, and his daughter in the car. There were artists on the floor being battered, women being battered. [...] Instead of talking, trying to get people to move, they were saying, ‘Fuck off! Get off the block!’”

Puff is selling his massive Alpine, New Jersey residence since he doesn't spend much time there anymore.

According to the NY Post, the home is a 12,000-square-foot, Colonial-style abode. He once lived in the establishment with his girlfriend Kim Porter and son Christian, but the two decided to put the mansion up for sale since they spend more time in their Los Angeles, California residence.

Sean Price Talks Random Axe And New Album With Ill Bill

Sean Mandela weighs in on his new album and an upcoming project with Ill Bill.

Sean Price and his Random Axe group members—Black Milk and Guilty Simpson—released their self-titled debut earlier this month, and during a new interview with The Come Up Show TV, the Brownsville rapper touched on his current and upcoming projects.

Price talked about the music he’s recorded for his solo album Mic Tyson explaining that the songs weren’t aimed at radio success. “I just make what I make and I stick with it,” he said. “I’ve done other songs, I’ve done a remix with the Destiny’s Child, 'Girls,' but that ain’t my shit. I did it but that don’t mean I like it. I wanna do shit I like. I don’t make girl songs and all that shit man.”

In regards to the anticipated Random Axe album, Sean P revealed that one of his favorite songs is the track “Chewbacca,” before he detailed some of his experiences recording with Black Milk and Guilty Simpson. “Black will play the beat and he’ll be like, ‘Yo, you should write a verse to this.’ I go ‘yeah,’ and I go on a roll,” he said.

Following the release of his long-delayed Mic Tyson LP, fans can expect yet another album from the outspoken rapper. “I got one more project with Ill Bill called The Pill," he said. "After that I don't know what I’ma do."

Lenny Kravitz Taps Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz & Drake For "Black And White America”

The rock singer enlists some heavy hitters for his first album since 2008's "It Is Time for a Love Revolution."

Lenny Kravitz is getting a hand from Jay-Z, Drake and Swizz Beatz on his upcoming album Black and White America. The 16-track offering, due August 30th, sees the rock singer joining forces with Hov and DJ Military on “Boongie Drop” and Drizzy on “Sunflower,” which he co-produced with Swizz Beatz.

Speaking with Billboard.com, Kravitz explained that the collaborations came organically. “It's all music, you know?" he said. "I only go where the music takes me, so if I hear it in the track, I'll do it. I won't do something for the sake of, 'Well, this is hip now.' When I wrote 'Boongie Drop' I heard a rap in the middle, and I immediately heard Jay's voice and we had collaborated twice before, so I called him and when I went to New York I put him on the track.”

As for his duet with the Young Money rapper, he explained that he was more than willing to do the song on principle alone. “And then I got on the phone with Drake for ('Sunflower') before he had even heard the track and he said, 'Yeah, I'll do it. I'm a fan and I love your work and I would love to be on it.' So that was cool.”

Missy Elliott Recounts Abusive Childhood In VH1's "Behind The Music"

Misdemeanor exposes a traumatizing situation where her father pulled a gun out on her mother.

In her upcoming episode of VH1’s Behind the Music, Missy Elliott not only recounts her struggle with Grave’s Disease, but she also recalls her abusive childhood. In a clip released from the show via EW, the rapper’s mother, Pat Elliott, details a harrowing event where her abusive husband pulled out a gun and threatened to kill her.

“Missy saw that the fight was just beyond measures. My husband said this is it. I am going to kill you. It's over. I was so tired of being beaten over and over. I said, 'Fine, just do it,'” said Pat. “And by that time, my brother came in and they were wrestling with the gun, and my brother got the gun away from him.”

Missy witnessed the event, speaking on the traumatizing situation in the episode. “He pulled the gun out in front of me. I was screaming, 'Daddy, please don't kill my mother! Please don't kill my mother!'” she said. “I will never forget it. It was the most scariest time in my life.”

Erykah Badu To Release Her First Mixtape In July

Fat Belly Bella will serve as the producer of her first mixtape under the moniker DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown.

Erykah Badu is gearing up for the release of her first mixtape, set for release this July. According to Pinboard Blog, the soulstress will mix the offering under the name DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown, the alias that she has used for DJ gigs in Miami, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia and Dallas, Texas.

Badu, who initially intended to release the mixtape in April, broke the news to a crowd during a film screening at the Los Angeles Film Festival earlier this week, boasting that she could "melt any DJ's face off in the building."

Following the mixtape's release, Badu will perform as one of the headlining acts at this year's Rock the Bells Festival, where she will perform her debut Baduizm in its entirety.

Rap Release Dates

'Watch the Throne' and 'Detox' still appear to be holding firm with July releases, as DJ Khaled, Wu-Tang Clan, and Crooked I all have albums coming.

June is closing out on a high note, as today Beyoncé releases 4 and Big Sean drops Finally Famous. On the O.G. circuit, Pete Rock & Smif-N-Wessun arrive with Monumental while Trae Tha Truth comes through with Street King. Fairweather friends of Hip Hop Limp Bizkit even come forth with Gold Cobra.

As July begins, the first album we're welcomed with is Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne. It's still up in the air as to whether or not the Roc will own Independence Day. Later in the month, Flint, Michigan's Jon Connor will drop his iTunes album Salvation along with the legendary Pimp C's Still Pimpin, both on July 12th. They share space on that day with the re-release of Blackenedwhite by OFWGKTA's MellowHype, along with Crooked I's Planet C.O.B. and The Cool Kids' When Fish Ride Bicycles.

The biggest question for July, though, is will Detox close out the month or not? The world will just have to stay tuned.

Beyonce Credits Jay-Z With Making Her Glastonbury Performance Possible

B gives her hubby all the props when it comes to paving the way at the storied festival.

Though Beyonce is a household name, she is still conquering new venues, and is surprising herself along the way.

In an interview with Lauren Laverne and Jo Whiley, the singer revealed how exhilarating it was for her to perform at Glastonbury, where her husband Jay-Z famously and controversially performed in 2008.

I felt like a rock star," said a bewildered B. "I'm so honored. This is like a highlight of my career."

Beyonce went so far as to suggest that, without Jay-Z's performance, hers would not have been possible. “I was able to see my husband perform here a couple years ago and it was one of the most exciting nights for me, and I don’t know if I would have been asked to come if he didn’t do the performance,” explained the singer.

“I don’t normally do festivals and 175,000 people, and I was very nervous,” she said. “And everyone gave me so much love and I will never, ever, ever, ever forget this.”

Cormega Reveals The New Date For His Album Release, Says It Will Be A "Best Of” Project

In an interview with Conspiracy Worldwide Radio Cormega speaks on his new album, Haiti, and more.

After last scheduling his sixth studio album, Cormega Raw Forever, for a June release date Cormega has revealed in an interview with Conspiracy Worldwide Radio that the album will now be released sometime in September.

Before speaking in-depth on his project Cormega made sure to make a few clarifications in regards to the album which will be somewhat of a “Best Of” project with original songs, remixes, and several guest appearances.

“Cormega Raw Forever is coming out September, but I don’t wanna deceive the public it’s not like a new Cormega album,” Cormega explained. “It’s a Cormega project. Basically Cormega Raw Forever is gonna be like a best of. It’s gonna be two CD’s: one CD’s gonna be a best of and the second CD is gonna be like MTV Unplugged, like me working with a band. You see what I’m saying?”

While Cormega Raw Forever will likely have quite a few guest appearances the rapper seemed most excited about his song with the son of deceased rapper Big Pun.

“One of my favorite remixes on the whole album is ‘Get It In’ with me and Lil’ Fame because the band killed it to the point where it sounds better than it did on my album cause the bass they just killed it,” said Cormega. “And we put Baby Pun on the album. Big Pun’s son is making his debut on Cormega Raw Forever. So it’s like I’m proud of that because I just can’t explain it man. It’s Pun’s son…and he’s killing it so I was happy for that.”

And on a more serious note Cormega spoke on Haiti and the fact that despite not being shown in the media not much has changed in the Caribbean nation since the earthquake.

“After the earthquake it’s not much of a change. Economically, you have people that are trying to build new companies so they can generate their own revenue out there, but it’s really bad out there,” the rapper explained. “Like you said the media isn’t really reporting this so a lot of people think that everything is copacetic. [There was] so much funds and the economy was generated through various charities and through various efforts to help them, but a lot of that money never really reached the people.”

The doc on A Tribe Called Quest wins the Audience Award for Best Documentary during the event.

Michael Rapaport’s documentary on A Tribe Called Quest, titled Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, was awarded the prestigious Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the L.A. Film Festival.

Rapaport shared his excitement upon hearing the good news.

The film originally resulted in Q-Tip denouncing its release, though the group recently voiced its support for the release. Ali Shaheed Muhammad explained, "I’m representing Q-Tip. We’re happy with the finished version. If none of us were fine with this, no one would be seeing the film.”

K-Salaam & Beatnick Prep Collaboration EP With Dead Prez's M1

The production team team up with the political rapper for a new release.

K-Salaam and Beatnick are teaming up to release a collaboration EP with dead prez’s M1. The production team recently released some behind the scenes footage of them in the studio with the politically minded rapper, who spoke on why they’re joining forces for the project.

“K-Salaam and Beatnick resonate with what dead prez is doing because we’re international hip-hop artists who are able to see the world from many angles,” he said. “Being part of the Brooklyn and down South and Jamaica and everywhere else in the world that has given my influence and my partner the same, we want to chime in about the so-called Middle East and what’s going on.”

Beanie Sigel Clarifies Statements Made About Jay-Z, Claims He Never Apologized

Beans explains that he never apologized to Hov and that his statements were interpreted wrong.

Beanie Sigel recently clarified his statements regarding his beef with former Roc-A-Fella associate Jay-Z, claiming that he never apologized for anything and that his statements were misconstrued. Speaking with Invasion Radio’s DJ Green Lantern, Beans explained that he has nothing to be sorry for.

“I never made a public apology, I talked to somebody from a magazine, and they brought that issue up. You never hear me say ‘apology.’ What I said was, to stop that interviewer from asking me those questions, and everybody else who asked those questions,” he said. “I felt how I felt and I still feel how I feel. But, just letting it go for everybody else. Hustler’s number one rule is never lose your cool. I broke one of the hustler’s rules. Gangstas fuck up, but at the end of the day, I still feel how the fuck I feel.”

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native explained that he was only bigging up Jay for giving him a look, and that his statements were misconstrued. “It was something personal with me. It was just at the end of a look. I don’t want to talk about that no more. I’m off that, I’m past that,” he continued. “Regardless of whatever Jay did wrong, the one thing that he did do that outweighed a lot of things that I thought he didn’t do or could have did or should’ve did was he gave me an opportunity. And a lot of people don’t get those opportunities, and that’s what I said. I ain’t got nothin’ to apologize for.”

The Broad Street Bully is currently working on the follow-up mixtape to 2004’s Public Enemy #1 as well as a new retail album. As for his absence, he says that he had personal business to attend to.

“I think it’s all timing with me. I just had to go back,” he said. “For me, running constantly since I was first came on the business, I never had a chance to sit still. I got kids and everything. I had a couple issues in my life that made me have to sit down, unwillingly, and when I cam home, I had a little paper trail. So just that time for me to be with my kids, I was missing out on a lot of things. I just enjoyed that and got comfortable in that zone.”

G.O.O.D. Music Becomes An Official Label Under Island Def Jam

Kanye inks a deal to turn G.O.O.D. Music into an official label, with Big Sean serving as its flagship artist.

Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music has inked an exclusive long-term worldwide label agreement with Island Def Jam Music Group. The first release under the terms of the new agreement is Big Sean’s Finally Famous, cementing the Detroit, Michigan up-and-comer as G.O.O.D. Music’s flagship artist.

"G.O.O.D. Music is an exciting new chapter in the long and successful association of Kanye West and Island Def Jam," said Barry Weiss, Chairman and COO of Universal Motown Republic Group and IDJMG. "As a recording artist and a producer over the past eight years, there is no one who has made a greater impression on the game than Kanye. We look forward to working closely with the new and established artists that he will be bringing to G.O.O.D. Music, which is already off to an impressive start with Big Sean."

Previously, G.O.O.D. Music was described as a “family and like a production company." Last year, GLC told HipHopDX that “you get a distribution deal and if you’re a G.O.O.D Music artist, then you come out on G.O.O.D Music and the distribution deal.”

Kanye will continue to serve as a core recording artist on Def Jam Records. “Kanye's genius has been proven time and time again on records and onstage," said Steve Bartels, President and COO of IDJMG. "He not only pours it out for himself, but he has made the difference with his presence on innumerable projects with other artists who are indebted to him. Kanye is an integral core member of the IDJ family, and G.O.O.D. Music continues his unselfish tradition of bringing along great new artists to the forefront."

Strange Music Member Shot In The Buttocks Following Reno Concert Strange Music Member Shot In The Buttocks Following Reno Concert

A member of Tech N9ne's entourage was shot during a post-concert shootout in Nevada earlier this morning.

One of the newest members of Strange Music was shot in the buttocks early this morning during a shootout in downtown Reno, Nevada.

According to Kolo TV, the collective had just finished a performance at the Knitting Factory when shots rang out in the Douglas Alley between the Knitting Factory and the Old Fitzgerald casino. Two unnamed victims were shot during the melee, but neither of their injuries are life-threatening.

Police described the scene as “chaotic,” with close to 16 rounds being fired. Officers arrested the suspected shooter who matches descriptions provided by witnesses and had a gun that matched the shell casings on the ground. Officials believe the shooting was not gang related.

The newest member of Strange Music, who sustained injuries to his backside, had only joined the team a few weeks back, and was serving as one of the openers on the tour.

Odd Future's Hodgy Beats Discusses New MellowHype LP, Earl Sweatshirt

The Odd Future member also speaks on an upcoming solo album produced entirely by Tyler, The Creator.

Odd Future’s Hodgy Beats recently spoke with Pitchfork.com to discuss his upcoming projects and weigh in on the attempts made to find Earl Sweatshirt. During the interview, the MellowHype member explained that the duo, also consisting of Left Brain, is working on the follow-up to BlackenedWhite, tentatively titled Numbers.

“Yeah, we've been cutting a bunch of songs, and every song sounds so different. On some of the songs, there's really no structure-- or there is a structure, but it's not like a regular rap song where there's a 16-bar verse and an eight-bar chorus,” he said. “The sound is really evolving. BlackenedWhite is just for everyone's ears. Numbers should be the eye-opener.”

He also spoke on recording a solo album titled Damien, which will be entirely produced by Tyler, The Creator. “Yes. It's called Damien, and I believe it'll be me rapping over mainly Tyler, the Creator's beats. I don't rap on Tyler's beats a lot, unless it's for his album. That album will be very ignorant.”

As for the recent attempts to dig deeper into Earl Sweatshirt's story, Hodgy had some choice words to share with media trying to figure it out. “Fuck everybody. You can suck my dick. If we can't get in contact with Earl, you definitely can't. He will come back when he's ready, if he ever will be ready again. I haven't spoken to Earl in a while. But everyone that's digging for no reason, you're just beating a dead horse. It's dead.”

Young Jeezy Sued For No-Show At Concert In The Virgin Islands

The Snowman allegedly bailed on a concert at which he was scheduled to perform.

Young Jeezy has been sued for bailing on Summer Splash 2011, which took place on June 18th in the Virgin Islands.

According to TMZ, organizers Paid 4 Entertainment made a deal with Jeezy to appear at the show back in March. Twelve days before the event, Jeezy’s people told them that he “might” have a conflict and “was considering not appearing” at the gig.

Paid 4 negotiated to have Jeezy appear the following day (June 19th), paying for a private jet so that the transportation wouldn’t be an issue. But according to the company, Jeezy didn’t make the flight and his reps called to cancel his appearance.

The company is suing Jeezy for $75,000 in damages as well as fraud.

Busta Rhymes Clarifies Partnership With N.O.R.E., Explains Signing Is More A Merger

Busta Rhymes has clarified yesterday’s announcement that N.O.R.E. is joining his Conglomerate Records family. Instead of signing him to the label, Bus-A-Buss has forged a business partnership between his shingle and N.O.R.E.’s Militainment.

“I didn’t really sign N.O.R.E. to the Conglomerate,” he said. “We did a business partnership, because N.O.R.E. already got Militainment poppin’. He got his own company, he CEO of his own shit already. So when we decided to come together, it was a merging of the company, a merging of the brands, a merging of the corporations and just forming a more powerful conglomerate. It’s really a Conglomerate/Militainment thing.”

He also claimed that the partnership is based on their history. “The whole N.O.R.E. situation came about because we got a friendship that he’s like one of my brothers, one of my closest comrades in this music shit. It was pretty much an organic thing. We always been a part of each other’s development and career growth,” he continued. “So we just finally decided as brethren, usually friends help each other secure the win.”

Drake Calls Out Universal Motown Records Over Stopping Song Leaks

According to Drizzy, "Marvin's Room" and "Trust Issues" are for the people, not UMG.

Toronto, Ontario emcee/singer star Drake is apparently fed up with his parent label. The Young Money artist used Twitter yesterday (June 23) to call out Universal Motown Records over cease-and-desisting song leaks of "Marvin's Room" and "Trust Issues" - records that Drake seemed to want fans to have.

With sophomore studio album Take Care planned for fourth quarter release, Drake and his label will have to come to terms.

"Universal needs to stop taking my fucking songs down. I am doing this for the people not for your label."

Recently, Drake's touring buddy J. Cole and Sony/Roc Nation have also been halting online posting of songs from the North Carolina native's debut album.

Rakim Explains How To Maintain Longevity In The Game

The Roots' Black Thought also explains how the God MC changed the rap game for other spitters.

Rakim recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his 1987 classic Paid in Full with Eric B. by performing the album in its entirety alongside The Roots and J. Period. Speaking with MTV News, the God MC explained that it’s a “blessing” to have had such longevity in the game.

“It's a blessing to be in the game this long and to have your work recognized after 25 years,” he said. “It's a big thing. The MC's lifespan in the game is maybe seven years, 10 years, 12 years, so to be around and to get respect at this point is a blessing."

The Roots’ Black Thought echoed his sentiments, bigging up Rakim for paving the way for rappers looking inward.

“Pre-Paid in Full, you didn't hear too many records — there were MCs out there, I used to hear some types with MCs rapping about having knowledge of self and dealing with that type of spirituality — but before Rakim, like, pre-Paid in Full, it wasn't out there like that. It was very much still a rarity,” he said. "I'm not saying lyrics or rap was simple or simplistic before that, but the complexity of it, the musicality of it changed after Rakim came out."

Tupac Shakur Biopic Producers Acquire Rights For Black Mafia Family Movie

L.T. Hutton and David Robinson are bringing Big Meech's story to the big screen.

L.T. Hutton and David Robinson, producers of Tupac Shakur’s upcoming biopic, have acquired the rights for the B.M.F. movie, which will focus on Black Mafia Family leader Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and the drug trafficking organization’s history.

According to HipHopWired, the producers are currently pulling the script together. “We have a passion and enthusiasm in bringing Big Meech's story to the big screen," said Hutton. “We're working closely with Meech and Tammy Cowins to make sure every aspect of the story is done correctly.”

The story will focus on the Detroit-based drug operation that later expanded across the United States in the ‘90s. The Black Mafia Family recently got a shout-out from Rick Ross, who named his single “B.M.F.” after the organization.

Statik Selektah & Reks To Release Three-Part Album "Straight No Chaser"

The producer and rapper plan on issuing a three-part series, with each consisting of five tracks.

Fresh off of recording an album with Freddie Gibbs in 24 hours, Statik Selektah is back in the lab, this time with Reks. The producer recently revealed that he is joining forces with the rapper to record a three-part album titled Straight No Chaser, with each disc consisting of five tracks.

“In the lab with Reks... me and him got an 3part album, "Straight No Chaser" dropping soon, 5 songs at a time. stay tuned. #Showoff,” he tweeted.

The Lawrence, Massachusetts MC most recently released his album R.E.K.S. in March, while Statik has manned the boards for full-lengths with Bumpy Knuckles and Action Bronson.

SWV Preps Comeback Album, Upcoming Reality Show

Sisters with Voices is back after parting ways in the late '90s.

SWV, aka Sisters with Voices, released its last album A Special Christmas in 1997, but the trio promises something a bit more contemporary for its reunion album. Speaking with Billboard.com, Cheryl “Coko” Gamble, Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons promise something that keeps up with the times.

"Same style just new millennium. Kick it up a notch, take it to the next level, but we're still going to be ourselves,” says Coko of the group’s latest, releasing on Mass Appeal Entertainment. “[Mass Appeal] didn't say no, they didn't close the door in our face. No, they believed in us, so that's always a plus.”

With production from Bryan Michael Cox and Lamb, the LP weeds out halfhearted music. "Whoever's going to give us some hits, not any mediocre stuff," she continues. "We're looking for some heat."

In addition to the album, the girls filmed a reality show that they’re currently shopping to networks. The show will explore the reasons that they went their separate ways more than a decade ago. "We're going to be honest about it. Every day is not perfect,” says Taj, hoping the show will guide young singers. "They have to understand it's not an easy road. It's hard as hell out here and it doesn't get easy at all. The more successful you become, the more work you have to put in. We want them to realize that you just don't put on a cute little bra top and sing a note and dance and everything is gold.”

Swizz Beatz Talks Ruff Ryders Legacy

After totally abandoning the traditional album format, Swizz Beatz tells Tim Westwood the Ruff Ryder crew never got the respect they deserved.

When it comes to the era of the late ‘90’s through the early aughts that saw Hip Hop boutique labels and joint ventures rack up an unprecedented amount of sales, Swizz Beatz thinks the Ruff Ryders collective has been overlooked. During an interview with Tim Westwood, Swizz looked back at the “Double R’s” run whistfully, saying the door was still open on collaborating with his crewmembers.

“I just feel like the whole Ruff Ryders thing wasn’t given its proper props,” Swizz said. “It was a great time for Hip Hop; we was very unique at the time. Nobody really brought in a culture within another culture—the bike culture—extreme sports mixed with the street. We had something really unique that happened and blew up real fast. People forget we were breaking all kinds of records, and I think we was going so strong and so powerful that the industry couldn’t deal with it no more.”

Rihanna Faces Yet Another Lawsuit Thanks To Her "S&M” Video

The content featured in Rihanna's "S&M” video brings about yet another lawsuit from a photographer.

A 19-year-old French photographer is in the process of suing pop star Rihanna due to images used in her “S&M” music video. According to the photographer, Philipp Paulus there are several images from the “S&M” video that are very similar to pictures featured in a photography book his work was featured in.

There is one image in particular from the “S&M” video which is strikingly similar to one of Paulus’ photographs. In Paulus’ photograph a woman wearing a gown is pictured with her back against a wall with a sheet of plastic in front of her which is taped down by large black X’s.

"For legitimate reasons the use of copying Paulus' work over a million times requires an agreement that protects the copyright and the achievements and creations of our client which has never been given by our client, neither to the artist Rihanna nor to her label Universal Music," said Paulus' attorney in a document obtained by RadarOnline.com. "According to this, the copyright laws of our client has been infringed and the worldwide million-wise exploitation of the video S&M is unlawful."

Paulus also gave his thoughts on the lawsuit and the video explaining to Radar that he doesn’t understand "Why a worldwide celebrity is not able to afford a creative director, who creates individual concepts and stagings, is incomprehensible to me. To create new things within the creative cosmos, you can only expect this to come from a real genius, there is no doubt about that."

It is still unclear how much Paulus plans on suing the singer for. Neither Rihanna nor a rep for the singer have responded publicly to the lawsuit.

Cee-Lo Green To Record New Goodie Mob Album Before Gnarls Barkley LP

The Lady Killer plans on reuniting with Goodie Mob in the near future.

Cee Lo Green recently revealed that he and Danger Mouse were heading back into the studio to record the third Gnarls Barkley album. But instead of working on that LP, he plans on reuniting with his Goodie Mob brethren to lay down their new LP first.

“Let me clear this up now, that comment was made very casually I’m actually planning on completing a Goodie Mob album first,” he told TheSource.com. “So I am working on both of them, in a very calm moderate kind of way. You know we absolutely have the creative drive to do Goodie Mob, and we already started Gnarls Barkley about a year go so I’d like to right that statement.”

Additionally, the “Voice” judge explained that he misses rapping in spite of finding success with his singing career. “Yeah I actually I really do, it’s the most natural place to go, and it ballooned into something resourceful and renowned,” he continued. “Goodie Mob is here to stay and so is Hip Hop. And we as a community need help, and I’m apart of the community, so I believe doing another Goodie Mob Album is doing a civil service, if you will.”

Wale Discusses How Rick Ross' Writing Technique Inspires Him

The Maybach Music rapper explains how Rozay's pen game keeps him on his toes.

As part of the Maybach Music Group team, Wale has been taking notes on Rick Ross’ writing process. Speaking with MTV2’s Funk Flex Full Throttle, the Washington, D.C. rapper explained that Rawse’s pen game has spurred him to want to step his rhymes up.

“It’s another whole vibe with him. I’ve never been so inspired to write. It’s almost a competitive nature in that environment with me and Mill in there and me and Pill in there and me and Rozay in there,” he said. “But he goes through these morphs into something. It’s really an incredible thing to watch.”

He likened Ross’ process to Jay-Z’s writing method, where he doesn’t use a paper and pen to craft rhymes. “You always hear these stories about Jay-Z mumbling, but you actually see the whole thing. He might not even say a word. He may go 20 seconds without saying a word, but you understood everything he just said. I’ve never seen anything like it. And then he just morphs into this person. Everybody just sit and watch.”

Mistah F.A.B. Defends Kreayshawn, V-Nasty & White Girl Mob

Mistah F.A.B. says the White Girl Mob is being unfairly criticized for their use of the term "nigga," talks about V-Nasty's street cred and tells detractors to "stop hating."

Bay Area's Kreayshawn and her White Girl Mob affiliates have made an impression on fans and detractors alike since the emergence of the single "Gucci Gucci." Members of the White Girl Mob received criticism for their use of the word "nigga," a term that many feel they should not be saying. Recently Mistah F.A.B. defended the group, saying that people need to "wake up" and "stop hating."

"You mother fuckers need to wake up. It's 2011," F.A.B. told WeTheWest.com. "Nobody gives a fuck about that shit no more. We grew up in the same communities, same neighborhoods. It's not the same as how people once looked at it. You want to stand up for a cause like that? You'll let somebody from your own race disrespect you all day, then soon as someone from outside your race...you want to turn into Malcolm X or Martin Luther King."

In the same interview, F.A.B. went on to say that White Girl Mob's V-Nasty, who has received the bulk of the criticism, has street credibility.

"Believe it or not, V-Nasty is mobbing harder than you niggas that's mad at her saying the word 'nigga.' V-Nasty is really mobbing. That's like little sis. She just got out of jail for a robbery, dog. That's public information, dog. She's not playing, dog. That's really what she do."

He finished off by saying that the group deserves a break from the "hating," and added that they are "real Oakland" representatives.

"It's real Oakland. Y'all need to really need to chill out...Stop hating."

It should be noted that Kreayshawn and Mistah F.A.B. have, at one point, had the same management.
