Trey Songz Sued For $18 Million Over “Bottoms Up”

Another day, another music artist facing the law somehow. Unfortunately, this time it’s Trey.

Currently, Trey Songz, his manager Gee Robertson, Kodak, producer Kane Beatz, and others are facing an $18 million lawsuit from Derrick Price, Doc Mob Records and iHip Hop Music over the rights to the hit single “Bottoms Up”.

According to AllHipHop, the lawsuit was filed on February 2nd in New York, claiming that the original “Bottoms Up” was produced by Milton James (aka Tony Scales) and copyrighted to Doc Mob Records. Doc Mob claims that Tony Scales eventually worked up with producer Kane Beatz, who added new elements and production to the song, which eventually became the finalized version as we know of.

However, in Trey Songz’ album Passion, Pain, and Pleasure, the only producer listed for the song was Kane Beatz, with no credit mentions to Tony Scales. Also, Doc Mob claims that multiple cease-and-desist letters were sent to Atlantic Records & Trey Songz, but only to be ignored.

Kodak, on the other hand, is being sued because of their usage of the track in their commercial with Trey.

… My only question is that if they’re claiming that Trey & em stole the beat, then why didn’t they sue earlier? I mean.. Why wait til the song is a major hit? The song leaked a long time before the album did, and definitely way before it was a #1 single. And if they sent C&Ds that were “ignored”, why wait so long to sue? Why not sue right away after they failed to comply to the C&D? Just saying..
