Lil B's "I'm Gay" Album Title Provokes Comment From GLAAD
Lil B's antics are now catching the attention of more than just the internet.
Lil B has always done his own thing. He plays with gender roles in his lyrics, refers to himself as a “pretty bitch”, and brags that women love him because he resembles Barbara Walters. Up until now the only real commenting on B’s unique persona has come from music writers and internet comments sections; some praising him, most calling him weird. But now Lil B is gaining some attention beyond the music world. The Gay rights organization GLAAD has responded, with skepticism but also hope, to Lil B’s plan to call his upcoming album, I’m Gay. B announced the name of the album from the stage during his performance at Cochella.
While Lil B has long claimed, in interviews and through his music, that words are just words and have no power beyond what we give them. GLAAD seems to have mixed feelings on the matter. XXL.com reached out to the organization and got this response, “As a lyricist, Lil B knows that words matter. Slurs have the power to fuel intolerance. We hope that Lil B’s album title is not just a gimmick, and is really a sincere attempt to be an ally. He has the platform and the voice. We hope he uses it in a positive way.”
XXL also reached out to other rappers to find out there opinion on Lil B’s new album title.
