Ras Kass, K-Murdock and other emcees have used Kickstarter, a website that has helped musicians raise more than $13 million for a variety of projects.
As the company celebrates its second anniversary, Kickstarter announced that it has raised more than $13 million in fan generated funds for a variety of music projects from an array of artists. The list of musical artists who have used Kickstarter is growing and it already including the likes of Ras Kass, K-Murdock and Blue Scholars. Kickstarter is a site that helps fans, called backers, raise funds for film, music and publishing projects.
$53 million have been raised altogether by Kickstarter, with $40 million going to successful projects, that is projects that have reached their fundraising goals. $7 million went uncollected for projects that failed to meet their goals and $6 million are currently funding projects. Kickstarter boasts that they have a 43% success rate with 7,496 projects being successful out of 20,371. Their projects have grown as the site has, improving numbers of new projects by the month.
Hip Hop fans may recall that Kickstarter funded Ras Kass' A.D.I.D.A.S. album, which was reviewed in August, 2010. The Blue Scholars also asked fans to help raise funds via Kickstarter and the same can be said for Treacherous Three Member L.A. Sunshine's book, which had an intro written by Public Enemy's Chuck D and an outro written by Darryl "DMC" McDaniels.
